My New Website Launched But I Can’t See It
If you launched a new website recently and your web designer says it’s live, but you still can’t see it immediately on your computer do not despair. It could be due to a phenomenon called “propagation”, a common occurrence on the Internet. Whenever there are major changes like name servers or IP address updates, it takes a while for the Internet to propagate evenly on all servers. Some servers are slower to propagate than others.
At D Media, we tell clients to give it 24-48 hours for proper propagation. This is one reason we advise clients not to announce the launch of a new website right away.
There is a tool you can use (geopeeker.com) to test the propagation. This shows how different servers are displaying the site.
If companies have firewalls built, that can also affect propagation. If you have the old website saved in your browser’s cache, that can also affect how you see it.
Also you can check the website on your smart phone. Sometimes connecting to WIFI and then turning OFF WIFI (connecting directly to the provider network) can show 2 different results.
Happy propagating!
